Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a nationwide program supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that was created in the wake of the attacks of 9/11. CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.
Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects.
In early 2018, the Seal Rock, Waldport and Yachats CERTs were unified into the South Lincoln County CERT group, which is hosted by Central Coast Rural Fire Protection District in Waldport. They can be reached at 541-563-3121 or firstname.lastname@example.org
